ROOTED IN HERITAGE - DRIVEN BY PROGRESS
Our Breeds. One Standard of Excellence.
A Legacy Built for the Next Generation
Bona Bona Livestock is built on heritage, precision genetics, and a commitment to progress. Although MJ is a first-generation cattleman, his work is grounded in family land and driven by a vision to better each breed he works with.
Their goal is simple: to breed livestock that elevates the industry – today and for future generations.

Beef Production. Maternal Excellence. Proven Demand.
Angus - Est. 2012
Bona Bona Livestock began with the Aberdeen Angus breed in 2012. Angus was chosen for its unmatched meat quality, strong maternal characteristics and the commercial demand for red cattle.
In 2013, we acquired Bertus, the Royal Show Grand Champion bull – the cornerstone of our evolving herd.
Today, our stud consists of 85 high-quality animals, with the primary focus on breeding performance-driven bulls for our own commercial herd.
Surplus bulls are offered to support fellow farmers and strengthen Angus herds across the region.

Adaptability. Efficiency. True African Performance.
Tuli - Est. 2016
We sought a breed that could thrive under extensive African conditions – and we found that in the Tuli.
Crossbreeding between Angus × Tuli has proven ideal for our commercial herd, offering exceptional adaptability, fertility and uniform performance.
MJ is a proud member of the Next Gen Tuli Group (2024), a network of young breeders across three provinces dedicated to enhancing and promoting the Tuli breed through shared genetics and innovation

Majestic. Powerful. Genetically Influential.
Ankole - Est. 2017
The Ankole journey began in 2008 when we first encountered this majestic breed.
In 2017, our dream became reality with the establishment of our own Ankole stud.
In 2021, we acquired Sebastiaan – a record-holding bull whose genetics continue to elevate our herd.
His progeny, matched with our top dams, has delivered exceptional results year after year.
New, carefully selected bloodlines from reputable breeders ensure strength, diversity and performance.
MJ proudly serves on the board of the Ankole Cattle Breeders Society, contributing to the growth and governance of the breed in South Africa.

Quality Genetics. African Adaptation. International Reach.
Kalahari Reds - Est. 2018
Our Kalahari Red herd, registered as KR241, started in 2018 with a commercial focus – but always with top stud rams to ensure genetic excellence from the very beginning.
Since 2023, Bona Bona Livestock has successfully exported Kalahari Reds across multiple African countries, proving the consistency and demand for our genetics.
To continue raising the standard, we recently introduced high-quality stud ewes, solidifying our herd’s depth and long-term performance.
